Eating My Way Thin

Growing up I was never thin. I have never been the “ideal” weight. I grew up on fatty, cheap meals and ate whatever I wanted to eat. I always knew I was overweight, but I just complained about it instead of “doing” something about it. If I did do something it would be a fad diet or diet pills. I can’t believe I even thought about it, but I also contemplated making myself throw up, otherwise known as bulimia-a serious disease that can even eventually kill a person. Of course, none of the things I tried worked.

It was January 3, 2017 when I realized I needed to change. When I told people I was going to loose weight I knew they thought I would give up like I did every other time. I felt then as if I needed to prove everyone wrong. My goal for that first month was to not eat any processed food, no added sugar, and no sodas. Surprisingly, I completed this task, and lost twenty one pounds the first month.

After that month people started to notice my body changing. I would like to thank the people who said something to me. It really inspired me to keep going. I lost two pant sizes and one shirt size.

I have now “lost” a total of fifty pounds, but have “gained” something as well-my confidence! I am a ways from my goal, but I know have the will power to continue this journey. My weight loss has been a result of mostly what I call “clean eating”, but I am now incorporating exercise in my regimen.

I have five tips to share that helped me to make this transformation in my life:

ONE: Drink water! Water is essential for the proper circulation of nutrients in your body. When you don’t drink enough water, your body gives you mixed signals and this makes you think you are hungry. The outcome of this is overeating. When you really just need the hydration.

TWO: Educate yourself! Many people think they need to restrict their calories and if they eat only a certain amount of calories that they can eat whatever they want to eat. They think that carbs are bad and that they can’t eat fat or carbs. However, some foods like avocadoes are a good source of fuel and a healthy type of fat that will help keep you full.

THREE: Ditch sugary drinks! The recommended amount of grams of added sugar a day is 37.5 for men and 25 for women. A 20 ounce bottle of Mountain Dew has 77 grams of sugar!

FOUR:  Eat dark chocolate! Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants. In moderation, it can be a great sweet treat.

FIVE: Take progress pictures! Losing actual pounds is great, but your weight can vary from different factors (and might even make you give up). However, taking progress pictures can really show your progression and inspire you to keep going. Take the front, side, and back angles each month to be able to see how you have really transformed.

An Average Day 

Breakfast: I will usually eat oats with chia seeds. Aim for a high protein breakfast and NEVER skip this meal!

Lunch: I like turkey roll ups with a boiled egg and a side of fruit. A big salad is also great for this time of day.

Snacks: BOOM CHICKA POP©! I LOVE this stuff! It tastes so good you almost feel guilty, but it is a great snack choice in a variety of flavors. I also like snacking on fruit, veggies, or cottage cheese.

Dinner: This is the time to smash in loads of vegetables! My favorite dinner is a fajita stuffed with chicken and a vegetable medley on the side.

Dessert: Believe it or not, there are a ton of healthy dessert options. If you are craving something that you know is unhealthy then just search the healthy version of it online. One of my favorites is Double Chocolate Avocado Brownies (don’t knock it until you try it)!
