Indigenous people honor their culture’s historic battles

For the first time in history, a president of the United States has officially declared Columbus Day to be Indigenous People’s Day. President Joe Biden redefined the holiday on Oct.11 as a national stance against the colonial brutalities Native Americans have faced throughout the course of history. On Monday, at Yerba Bueno gardens in San Francisco, hundreds of people gathered alongside Native Americans from around the world to commemorate this historic moment.
