Arrested student on ‘home detention;’ faces charges of rape and kidnapping

The male student arrested Sept. 10 at the high school is currently on “home detention with GPS monitoring” according to information provided to The Shakerite by Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court Spokeswoman Mary Davidson.
The suspect, whom Shaker Heights Police Department Chief Scott Lee said is 15 years old, faces charges of rape and kidnapping according to case information obtained from Davidson after the student’s pre-trial Monday with Juvenile Court Judge Alison F. Floyd. The pre-trial will continue Oct. 23.
In the meantime, Floyd ruled that “the child shall have no contact with the alleged victim including electronic and social media.” According to the case information, the student “denied the allegations through counsel.”
According to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s website, home detention “was established to provide an alternative sentencing option and help reduce jail overcrowding.” Individuals ordered to home detention must “wear an electronic monitoring device (ankle bracelet) and are restricted to their homes.” The web page states that sheriff deputies make unannounced home visits to individuals under home detention.
