Jelani Conteh (’26) leaps toward the hoop as he extends his arm to dunk Feb. 5. Member of the boys varsity basketball team Jack Duffy (’25) said the team’s collaboration helped them succeed. “The game was really well played for all of us,” Duffy said. “We really came together, showed a lot of chemistry and were able to, you know, get the victory.”
Aris Perrotis (’25) watches as Amari Victor (’25) looks to pass around an opposing player. Perrotis said he enjoyed playing alongside longtime friends. “I’ve been playing basketball with Shelbe from like fifth, sixth grade, so it’s a very sweet ending to our career here in Middle School and High School,” Perrotis said. “It’s a really nice feeling and something that we hadn’t been able to do ever, so it was a great end to the game.” (Sophia Bateman)Jelani Conteh (’26) jumps to shoot as a TASIS player raises his arms to block. This is Conteh’s second year on the team. (Sophia Bateman)Jack Duffy (’25) runs to open space as Obalolu Edun (’26) dribbles the ball while maneuvering past a TASIS player. Duffy said he credits his performance during the game to the support of his teammates. “I thought I played well, but I think that me playing well is fully accredited to the team,” Duffy said. “They gave me good opportunities to be my best.” (Sophia Bateman)During the fourth quarter, Gus Bhatia (’25) beats a drum while Noah Sadrian (’25) cheers. Member of the boys varsity basketball team Jack Duffy (’25) said although there were few people in the crowd, it still “elevated” the team’s play. “There weren’t many people, but they were still doing the chants,” Duffy said. After losing their previous match against TASIS, Perrotis said he was pleased with the team’s win. “We beat them by like 40 points, which is good because, last time we played them, we lost somehow,” Perrotis said. “I was very happy with the victory, as with a couple of dunks and blocks.” (Sophia Bateman)Luseni Conteh (’26) watches as Shelbe Yousey (’25) shoots a free throw. (Sophia Bateman)Aris Perrotis (’25) signals he is open while being guarded by a TASIS player. Perrotis said although he couldn’t participate as much as he wanted, he still enjoyed the game. “I’m recovering from a sickness, so I couldn’t really run that much, but I was just happy to be there, be part of the team and not just sitting on the side,” Perrotis said. Member of the boys varsity basketball team Jack Duffy (’25) said his last home game was sentimental. “It didn’t really hit me until it was over,” Duffy said. “I won’t be able to be playing in the Farmer Gym anymore, and it’s too bad, but we’re hopefully going to capitalize at ISSTs, so it’ll all be worth it.” (Sophia Bateman)Prior to attempting a free throw, Constantinos Perrotis (’27) dribbles the ball. Perrotis said the team dynamic is facilitated by familial connections. “It’s a really cool moment to be on the same team considering that six of our 11 players are brothers,” Perrotis said. “We’re all very good friends, so the energy is always very good.” (Sophia Bateman)The boys varsity basketball team huddles together at the end of the game.
