With a computer and his body full of nerves, he sat in his room waiting to interview his first ever guest.
Junior Pritam Saha founded The Hustle Path podcast in May, co-hosting it with junior Joshua Kim. Together, they reach out to young entrepreneurs, and learn about their background, struggles and business. Pritam first came up with the idea after scrolling through TikTok and LinkedIn.
“I wondered how those people secured interviews and made money through their startups,” Pritam said. “I thought, ‘why don’t I interview those people and ask them how they got started and what the hustle was like behind the scenes?’”
Pritam and Joshua met each other in sixth grade at school and have stayed friends since. After Pritam had worked through three episodes alone, Joshua took interest in his podcast and asked to join in early June. Pritam said that Joshua stood out from all the others who had asked to co-host because of his work ethic and kindness.
“I realized we have good chemistry and work well together,” Joshua said. “I thought [that] I could really grow through this and add so much more, and he saw that too.”
Pritam hired two more members: junior Sourajeet Saha as outreach manager in July and operations manager Krish Gupte, who lives in New Jersey, in September, when he reached out to Pritam through LinkedIn. Saha searches for people in the business field who are interested in being a guest on the podcast.
“It’s been a blessing,” Saha said. “I have many opportunities to not only connect with [the] team but also the people that I reach out to.”
Their podcast episodes are posted on Spotify and YouTube. They have over 60,000 views on LinkedIn, 50 monthly listeners on Spotify and average 150 listens per episode. Pritam said they plan to start posting blogs on their website and clips of the interviews on Instagram, targeting their audience towards students in high school or college.
“A lot of the time, people who are young in their teenage years or even graduating college don’t know what to do with their life,” Joshua said. “You can’t ask big CEOs of startups, [so] we created this platform so [young] people have somewhere to start.”
Every two weeks, the four members meet together over Zoom or FaceTime. During these meetings, they are able to plan their interviews and outreach. They split their questions into three separate parts: the guest’s origin story, the creation of their company and their plans for the future.
“If one person carries a 50 pound weight, it’ll be hard for them,” Joshua said. “But if four people carry it together, it feels like you’re not carrying anything at all.”
People they have interviewed include Kupid Dating founder/CEO Evan Rama and UTD student/business starter Cameron Karthik, with five guests/episodes in total. He hopes to interview founder/CEO of Cluely Roy (Chungin) Lee and realtor Gagan Singh in the future.
“[The] driving factor [of starting the podcast] was to improve my public speaking skills,” Pritam said. “[During] my first episode I was nervous, but as soon as I got into the meeting the nerves started to kick back. Working on this podcast has improved my public speaking, outreach and networking [skills].”
Their number one goal for The Hustle Path is to raise their monthly listeners on Spotify from 50 to 100-150. They plan to continue creating episodes after graduating high school.
“I’ve had people tell me no one’s gonna listen [and I’m] wasting time,” Pritam said. “[But] trust in the plan and process [and] focus on the inputs [then] the outputs will come.”
